| Shipping | Borealis Queo VLDPE 7007LA is a non-hazardous polyethylene copolymer in pellet form. It is shipped in moisture-protective bags or octabins, classified as non-dangerous goods for transport, and should be stored dry, below 50°C, away from direct sunlight and ignition sources. |
| Storage | Store Borealis Queo VLDPE 7007LA in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, moisture, and incompatible materials. Keep in original sealed packaging on pallets, protected from contamination, dust, and physical damage. Avoid prolonged UV exposure and open flames. Maintain good housekeeping; clean up pellet spillage promptly because pellets can create slipping hazards. |
| Shelf Life | Borealis Queo VLDPE 7007LA typically has a 24-month shelf life when stored unopened in its original packaging, dry, below 50°C, and protected from sunlight. |
Coextruded cast film sealant skins containing 70–100 wt% Borealis Queo 7007LA are processed on cast lines equipped with 75 mm, 50 mm, and 30 mm grooved-feed extruders feeding a 1,800 mm Cloeren EBR die. The resin is an ethylene-1-octene copolymer with an ISO 1183 density of 0.907 g/cm³ and an ISO 1133 melt flow rate of 0.7 g/10 min at 190 °C/2.16 kg. The sealant layer is applied at 10–15% of a 45–60 μm A/B/C web, with melt temperature at the die held between 240 °C and 250 °C, chill roll temperature maintained at 15–25 °C, and line speed set from 150 m/min to 250 m/min. The low-density resin requires nip pressure above 50 N/cm to control edge neck-in in the range of 8–12% at low sealant coat weights. Heat-seal response is evaluated under ASTM F88/F88M; at 0.3 MPa jaw pressure and 0.5 s dwell, seal strength above 2.0 N/25.4 mm is obtained at 85–95 °C, which is 10–20 °C below the seal initiation temperature of a comparable octene LLDPE control and permits sealing through minor surface contamination without thermal distortion of biaxially oriented polyester outer layers. Hot tack measured under ASTM F1921 with a 0.2 s cooling interval shows a usable window from 95 °C to 125 °C, while peak hot tack declines above 130 °C because the molten phase remains too fluid to sustain peel stress; shingled-seal-jaw lines therefore reduce pack speed when jaw temperature approaches 125 °C. For food contact, the skin layer is evaluated under EU 10/2011 with an overall migration limit of 10 mg/dm² in simulant E, and the olefin polymer base falls under 21 CFR 177.1520(c). Converters must document the additive package, because final structures may also require compliance with FDA 21 CFR 178.2010 for stabilizers and ISO 8295 static coefficient of friction below 0.35 for reliable tracking on high-speed vertical baggers. A recurring production failure is warm-storage roll blocking, traced to chill roll temperatures above 25 °C and insufficient slip-agent bloom; blocking force on the unprinted sealant surface is kept below 30 g/25 mm under ISO 11502 to maintain rewind stability.

On vertical form-fill-seal machines running frozen cut green beans at 80–120 packs/min, the sealing layer typically contains 25–35 wt% Queo 7007LA blended with an octene LLDPE of 1.0 g/10 min melt flow rate and 10–15 wt% high-molecular-weight LDPE for bubble stability. This layer is coextruded into a 55–70 μm film at a blow-up ratio of 2.0–2.4 and a die gap of 1.6–2.0 mm; the outer skin is a slip/antiblock-loaded Ziegler-Natta LLDPE. Seal jaw settings of 105–115 °C, 0.15–0.30 MPa jaw pressure, and 80–150 ms dwell are common. Hot tack per ASTM F1921 between 100 °C and 120 °C must remain above 1.5 N/25.4 mm for the seal to survive filling impact; Queo 7007LA widens the low-temperature hot tack window, but its contribution is limited by the outer layer’s thermal conductivity and by surface antiblock particles above 20 μm that nucleate leak paths. Frozen-temperature toughness is assessed using ISO 8570 and ASTM D882 after conditioning at -18 °C; machine-direction elongation at break should exceed 450%, and dart impact tested by ISO 7765-1 method A at -20 °C typically exceeds 120 g/μm total film thickness, though published data for this specific blend configuration is limited and line validation is required. A known processing constraint is that melt temperatures above 210 °C in the sealant extruder reduce hot tack by increasing residual orientation relaxation; the temperature profile in the 45 mm sealant extruder is therefore capped at 205 °C at the adapter while the main extruder runs at 215–225 °C.
Reverse-printed BOPP laminates for dry beverage powders and instant coffee sachets are produced by extrusion coating Queo 7007LA onto the printed web at 15–18 g/m², using a 150 mm single-screw extruder with an L/D 30:1 barrier screw, a 2,400 mm slot die, an air gap of 180–220 mm, and a mirror-polished chill roll at 12–18 °C. At line speeds of 220–280 m/min, the octene comonomer distribution reduces neck-in to 8–10% relative to conventional LDPE at equal melt temperature, and the shear response permits an extrudate temperature of 255–265 °C without excessive thermal oxidation; dissolved oxygen in the melt is nevertheless maintained below 0.5 mg/kg. Adhesion to corona-treated BOPP with surface energy above 42 mN/m and to nitrocellulose-based inks reaches 1.5–2.5 N/15 mm peel strength under ASTM D1876 unless residual ink solvents exceed 5 mg/m², in which case local delamination occurs above 60 °C filling temperature. The sealant forms a moisture-resistant side seal at 95–110 °C under 0.2–0.4 MPa, with a hot tack peak measured by ASTM F1921 of 2.0–2.5 N/25.4 mm at 120 °C, and the coefficient of friction against stainless steel under ISO 8295 is controlled to 0.25–0.40 by an internal slip package. For compliance, the coated web is evaluated under EU 10/2011 conditions for overall migration in 10% ethanol and 3% acetic acid simulants, with total migration below 10 mg/dm², and under 21 CFR 177.1520(c) as an olefin polymer. Converters must avoid amine-based adhesion promoters in the ink system because they accelerate oxidative chain scission at the extrusion coating interface and reduce heat-seal strength after 12 months of shelf ageing.
When a heavy-duty sack is down-gauged from 50 μm to 40 μm for granular urea or resin pellet filling, the film is blown on IBC or water-cooled lines with a 1,600 mm die, 1.8–2.2 mm die gap, blow-up ratio of 2.2–2.6, and neck height of 700–900 mm. The 40–60 μm monolayer or three-layer structure contains 20–35 wt% Queo 7007LA blended into a 0.920 g/cm³ octene LLDPE with 0.7–1.0 g/10 min melt flow rate. Die melt temperature is held at 200–210 °C to limit thermal degradation of the single-site copolymer, and output per die circumference is restricted to 0.4–0.7 kg/h per mm to avoid sharkskin in the high-stalk bubble. Puncture energy measured by ISO 6603-2 at -30 °C and +23 °C is the primary acceptance criterion for heavy-duty sacks; typical values for a 150 μm control film rise from 3.0–4.5 J to 5.0–7.0 J when 30 wt% Queo 7007LA replaces an equivalent fraction of Ziegler-Natta LLDPE, but published data for this particular down-gauged FFS configuration is limited and line-specific validation on the filling spout is required. The low seal initiation of Queo 7007LA permits gas-flushed sack closures at 100–115 °C and 0.2 MPa, but the seal layer must not exceed 15 μm thickness or the hot seal can elongate under product drop force and produce leakers at the bottom gusset. Elmendorf tear strength per ISO 6383-2 in the machine direction remains above 6 N for a 40 μm film, and drop resistance per ASTM D5276 from 1.2 m at -20 °C improves by 15–25% relative to a conventional LLDPE/LDPE sack. Converters using tinted masterbatch should limit pigment loading to 4–6 wt% because the low melt viscosity of the Queo 7007LA-rich layer is more sensitive to dispersed particle agglomeration, which nucleates bubble breaks at draw ratios above 25.
On multi-layer cast stretch hood lines producing 85–120 μm film for pallet unitization, the outer cling layer is formulated from 50–70 wt% Queo 7007LA and 30–50 wt% of a low-crystallinity ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer or ULDPE, with 1–3 wt% of a polyisobutylene tackifier of molecular weight 1.2–2.0 × 10⁵ g/mol; the core layer remains a high-toughness octene LLDPE. The cast die is 1,800–2,400 mm wide with a die gap of 0.8–1.2 mm, and the line produces film at 120–180 m/min with a chill roll temperature of 18–22 °C. The cling layer is kept to 6–10 μm to avoid telescoping at the pallet top. Cling force is measured by ASTM D5458 against the film backside, and a reversible cling value of 1.5–3.0 N is targeted; above 4.0 N the film cannot be unwound on automated hood applicators. Dimensional recovery after 100% machine-direction stretch must exceed 55% of applied strain, and puncture resistance tested by ASTM D5748 at 23 °C is specified above 120 N/mm for barrels with sharp corner boards. Processors observe that Queo 7007LA contributes stable cling without excessive blocking when the inner layer thickness is below 10 μm; above 12 μm the coefficient of friction against the outer surface increases above 0.8 and the film fails to slide during stretching. Melt mixing of the cling layer is performed at 210–230 °C with a dedicated side-feeder for the tackifier, because localized neat PIB concentrations above 2 wt% cause screw slip and surging in the 45 mm cling extruder.
The optical haze of a 45–55 μm coextruded blown film used for frozen seafood and ice cream novelties is governed primarily by frost line height, not by the melt index of the sealant resin. Queo 7007LA-rich layers are run on a 120 mm die with a 1.4–1.6 mm die gap, blow-up ratio of 2.4–2.8, and melt temperature of 195–205 °C, while the frost line is deliberately set at 350–450 mm above the die face. If the frost line moves below 300 mm, the rapid quench freezes excessive molecular orientation, raising internal haze above 8% and reducing machine-direction tear resistance per ISO 6383-2. If the frost line rises above 600 mm, the melt relaxation period elongates, producing measurable microcrystalline haze from slow cooling of octene branches and lowering dart impact at -25 °C by more than 10% relative to the optimized line. Total haze is evaluated by ASTM D1003 on a 50 μm film, and 60° gloss is measured by ASTM D2457; commercial converters report total haze in the range of 3.5–6.0% and gloss above 85 GU when the frost line is held within the specified band. The sealant layer, containing 80–100 wt% Queo 7007LA, is coextruded with a high-slip LLDPE skin, and the final film exhibits seal strength above 3.0 N/25.4 mm at 90–100 °C under ASTM F88/F88M. Converters running the film on horizontal flow-wrappers at 60–100 packs/min must limit seal jaw pressure to 0.25–0.35 MPa to avoid excessive thinning at cross-seal corners; film with a seal layer below 8 μm is prone to flex-crack pinholes after 24 h of frozen storage at -20 °C, as detected by ASTM F392 flex testing.
