In cast film and blown film coextrusion, Queo VLDPE 0210 is introduced into the sealant skin of 3-layer and 5-layer structures at 20–40 wt% of the skin-layer blend, with the balance typically an mLLDPE or linear LDPE having a density between 0.918 g/cm³ and 0.925 g/cm³. The resin has a nominal density of 0.902 g/cm³ when measured according to ISO 1183-1:2019 and a nominal melt flow rate of 1.0 g/10 min under 190 °C/2.16 kg according to ISO 1133-1:2022. On a cast line with a 3-layer feedblock and a 2.4 m wide die running at 180–220 m/min, the sealant layer is commonly held at 12–18 µm within a total film gauge of 60–80 µm. The process conflict is the seal-bar temperature offset: lowering seal initiation temperature to 88–95 °C improves packaging line throughput, but a chill-roll temperature above 22 °C can erase that gain by 4–6 °C because the crystallite surface order changes. Hot-tack testing with ASTM F1921 at 0.5 s dwell and 0.4 MPa jaw pressure separates a poor dispersion from a properly formulated skin; unsteady seal strength across the web usually indicates non-uniform slip or antiblock masterbatch distribution. Because Queo VLDPE 0210 contains no significant slip or antiblock additive, surface coefficient of friction is measured by ISO 8295 on the sealant skin after 24 h conditioning at 23 °C; values above 0.35 indicate that the slip masterbatch dosing must be increased. The melt is also sensitive to shear stress at the die exit: with a die gap below 1.8 mm and line speed above 250 m/min, surface roughness appears as optically visible flow marks. The skin die gap is therefore maintained at 2.0–2.6 mm, and the polymer temperature at the die exit is held at 230–245 °C.
Continuous crosslinked foam lines process Queo VLDPE 0210 as the primary low-density base resin, frequently blended with 10–30 wt% high-pressure LDPE to increase melt tension, on tandem extruders with a primary screw L/D of 36:1 and a secondary cooling screw operating at 95–115 °C barrel temperature. Dicumyl peroxide is metered at 0.8–1.4 phr via a liquid injection port positioned after the melting zone, and azodicarbonamide at 2–6 phr is added downstream where the melt temperature is below 120 °C to prevent premature gas evolution. The limiting variable is peroxide half-life: at 140 °C the half-life exceeds 30 min, requiring a crosslinking-zone residence time of 90–150 s if the final gel content is to remain within 40–65% when extracted according to ISO 10147:2022 or ASTM D2765-16 Method B. Below 40% gel, the foam cell walls are too weak and the sheet density in an 8 mm plank rises beyond 120 kg/m³; above 70% gel, die pressure surpasses 200 bar and the sheet surface develops melt-fracture-like roughness. The die temperature is held at 125–135 °C, with draw ratio below 1.2 and a cooling-roll gap setting of 6–10 mm. Blowing agent decomposition residue, mostly cyanuric acid, must be vented or wiped continuously to avoid plate-out on the sizing rolls and intermittent blocking of the cooling vacuum slots.
On a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with 40:1 L/D and 10–12 barrel zones, recycled polypropylene homopolymer is impact-modified by side-feeding Queo VLDPE 0210 after the melting zone to limit molecular weight reduction from prolonged thermal exposure. The addition range that raises notched Izod impact without causing an unacceptable loss in flexural modulus is 8–18 wt%, with the exact optimum controlled by the melt flow rate and contamination level of the reclaimed PP stream. When the reclaimed PP has an ISO 1133-1:2022 melt flow rate of 15 g/10 min at 230 °C/2.16 kg, a screening point of 12 wt% VLDPE 0210 moves the notched Izod impact from 3.5 kJ/m² to 7.5 kJ/m² at 23 °C under ISO 180/A:2023, while flexural modulus measured by ISO 178:2022 falls from 1,150 MPa to 840 MPa. Published data for this specific configuration is limited, so the screening point should be verified on the target reclaimed PP stream. The dispersion quality is assessed by brittle fracture at −20 °C; poorly dispersed domains larger than 5 µm reduce impact enhancement and create delamination on injection-moulded plaques. The screw configuration therefore uses two kneading blocks downstream of the side feeder set at 60° and 45° staggering angles, and the melt temperature is kept between 190 °C and 210 °C to avoid viscosity ratio collapse between the PP matrix and the VLDPE domains.
Queo VLDPE 0210 is selected as the carrier resin for coated calcium carbonate loadings of 70–80 wt%, where the low-density metallocene backbone allows the compounder to hold downstream barrel temperatures at 150–170 °C while maintaining melt viscosity sufficient to wet filler surfaces. On a 52 mm co-rotating twin-screw extruder with 32:1 L/D and vacuum venting at −0.08 MPa, specific energy input remains below 0.22 kWh/kg at 350 rpm. The operational boundary is moisture: stearic acid-coated filler with surface moisture above 0.05 wt% requires pre-drying at 80 °C for 4 h because acid-catalysed hydrolysis raises the masterbatch melt viscosity and causes filter pressure to climb during letdown. Dispersion is assessed by pressing a 200 µm film and counting agglomerates by optical microscopy; an acceptable masterbatch shows no particles larger than 25 µm. Filler loadings above 82 wt% cause screw torque to exceed 95% and melt pressure to pass 70 bar, after which the masterbatch cannot be diluted evenly in blown film. The resulting concentrate is let down at 9–15% in LDPE or mLLDPE film formulations.
In hot-melt adhesive systems, Queo VLDPE 0210 is used at 5–15 wt% within styrenic block copolymer/wax formulations to increase cohesive strength at elevated temperatures without a large viscosity penalty. Brookfield viscosity of a 10 wt% VLDPE 0210-modified adhesive is held below 5,000 mPa·s at 180 °C on a spindle 27 at 5 rpm by ASTM D3236-15, permitting slot-die coating at 30 m/min on a release paper line. C5 hydrocarbon resins lower the melt viscosity and improve wetting; C9 resins raise the ring-and-ball softening point measured by ASTM E28-99 but narrow the compatibility window. The threshold for peel adhesion on untreated polyethylene is 7 wt% VLDPE 0210 content; below that level the metallocene phase acts only as a flexibilizer and does not change 180° peel measured by ASTM D3330/D3330M-04. An operational incompatibility appears with Fischer-Tropsch waxes having a congealing point above 100 °C: the cooled adhesive develops a matte surface layer, visible as a phase-separated skin under reflected light. Open time is adjusted with paraffin wax rather than by increasing VLDPE 0210 content, because VLDPE 0210 has only marginal influence on open time compared with its effect on low-temperature adhesion.
Halogen-free flame-retardant sheathing compounds for wire and cable incorporate Queo VLDPE 0210 as part of the polymer matrix alongside EVA or LLDPE when the filler fraction of magnesium hydroxide and aluminium hydroxide reaches 55–65 wt%. The low-density metallocene phase lowers compound melt viscosity, reduces torque spikes during sequential side-feeding of mineral filler across 4 ports on a 75 mm twin-screw extruder, and improves strain-at-break retention after ageing. Tensile strength retention is measured after 168 h at 100 °C in a forced-air oven following IEC 60811-401; formulations with 12–18 wt% VLDPE 0210 retain 82–90% of original tensile strength when the stabiliser package contains a hindered phenol and thio-ester at 0.3:0.3 phr. Cold bend performance, tested by IEC 60811-504, improves to −40 °C only if the compound gel content remains below 10%; otherwise pre-crosslinked gel particles at the filler-matrix interface reduce impact and create stress concentrations. The extrusion limitation is moisture: filler-bound moisture above 0.06 wt% causes porosity and reduces tensile strength by 15% after ageing. Vacuum venting at −0.09 MPa and barrel temperatures of 140–160 °C in the mixing zone are required to reach the specified dispersion.
