Injection moulding of lower B-pillar covers, seat side shields, and rear parcel shelf grille carriers from ABS 7000 supplied by Bhansali Engineering Polymers requires residual moisture below 0.10% before the melt enters a 20:1 L/D barrier screw. The resin is run as a neat base polymer at 96.0–98.5 wt%, with a custom colour masterbatch at 1.5–4.0 wt%; when the same tooling is converted to upper pillar trims exposed to ultraviolet load, the standard concentrate is replaced with a UV-stabilized masterbatch at 2.0–3.5 wt%. The downstream injection process uses a desiccant dryer at 80 °C for 3–4 h, barrel set points of 220/235/245/240 °C, mould surface temperature of 50–65 °C, hold pressure of 40–60 MPa, and back pressure of 0.5–1.5 MPa. Shot mass is held between 60% and 80% of barrel capacity to limit melt residence time; on eight-cavity hot-runner tools with gate diameters of 0.8–1.2 mm, fill imbalance above 3% between cavities creates visible flow lines in grained surfaces and low-frequency buzz at rear shelf grille ribs. Compliance for EU passenger-vehicle parts requires documentation against ELV 2000/53/EC Annex II, REACH 1907/2006 SVHC concentrations below 0.1 wt% per article, and flammability screening to FMVSS 302 and ISO 3795:1989 with a horizontal burn rate not exceeding 100 mm/min. Volatile and fogging behaviour is screened according to VDA 278:2011 for VOC and FOG fractions and DIN 75201 or SAE J1756 for condensate reflectance; mechanical property retention is verified on moulded plaques by notched Izod impact to ISO 180/1A:2023 and flexural modulus to ISO 178:2019. Terminals produced under this regime are lower B-pillar covers, front seat side shields, door handle escutcheons, and rear parcel shelf grille frames.
High-gloss control panels and front fascias for washing machines, air-conditioning indoor units, and vacuum cleaner bodies are moulded from ABS 7000 with mirror-polished tool surfaces specified to an average surface roughness Ra below 0.025 µm. The acceptable barrel-temperature spread is narrower than for generic trim because melt temperatures above 250 °C create free-form splay and yellowing at the hot-runner gate, while melt temperatures below 225 °C replicate the tool surface as flow lines and visible knit lines at rib roots. Compliance under IEC 60335-1 clause 30.2 and IEC 60695-11-10:2013 requires a 650 °C glow-wire test on the moulded fascia for unattended appliances, and ball-pressure testing to IEC 60695-10-2:2014 at 75 °C with an indentation diameter of ≤ 2.0 mm. The formulation uses ABS 7000 at 100 parts by weight, 2.5–5.0 wt% titanium dioxide masterbatch, 0.05–0.15 wt% zinc stearate as an internal lubricant, and 0.10–0.30 wt% hindered phenolic antioxidant. Moulding is performed with sequential valve gating, barrel set points 230/235/245/240 °C, hot-runner manifold 240 °C, mould surface temperature 60–70 °C, fill speed 100–150 mm/s, and hold pressure 30–50 MPa. Mould release additive above 0.3 wt% is avoided because it transfers to the polished cavity and reduces measured 60º gloss from 90 GU to below 85 GU within 500 shots on single-cavity trials when evaluated to ASTM D2457-22. Terminal parts include front control panel frames, detergent drawer faces, vacuum cleaner upper bodies, and air-conditioner louver covers.
In non-current-carrying residential distribution boards and modular switch plate housings, ABS 7000 is processed as a neat resin with 2.0–5.0 wt% carbon-black or antistatic masterbatch to achieve surface resistivity below 10^9 Ω/square as measured to IEC 62631-3-2:2023. The material is not intended for enclosures requiring UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm unless external flame-retardant compounding is performed; published data for FR-modified ABS 7000 in this specific configuration is limited. For fixed installations, IEC 60695-11-10 HB classification, glow wire to IEC 60695-2-11 at 550 °C for attended equipment and 650 °C for unattended equipment, and ingress protection to IEC 60529 at IP40 or higher after assembly define the pass/fail boundary. Injection moulding uses wall thickness 2.0–3.0 mm, barrel set points 225/235/245/240 °C, mould surface 40–60 °C, cold sprue orifice 6–8 mm, hold pressure 35–55 MPa, and cooling time of 18–30 s. Sink marks over screw bosses occur when pack pressure falls below 35 MPa, and the defect is measured by surface depth greater than 0.02 mm under ISO 25178 surface-texture scanning on production parts. Terminal products include modular switch plates, distribution box covers, terminal shrouds, and miniature circuit breaker housings.

| Power tool housing | EN IEC 60745-1 | UL 746C, ISO 180/1A:2023 | OEM drop test at −20 °C |
| Hard-shell luggage | REACH 1907/2006 | ISO 4892-2:2013 | Colour change per brand grey-scale limit |

Drop-test performance of double-insulated drill and angle grinder housings after conditioning at −20 °C for 24 h is governed by gate freeze time and the orientation of the butadiene-rich phase through the handle-to-body transition. Mould surface temperatures below 50 °C produce a highly oriented frozen layer that reduces notched Izod impact to ISO 180/1A:2023 and creates brittle failure in the handle root; raising mould temperature to 70–80 °C lengthens gate freeze time and retains ductile failure after the −20 °C drop test. The formulation uses ABS 7000 at 100 parts by weight in high-abuse drill housings, with 0.2–0.5 wt% internal mould release and 1.0–2.0 wt% colour masterbatch; glass-filled or mineral-filled systems are avoided in double-insulated configurations because filler surface conductivity can alter creepage distance and clearance under EN IEC 60745-1. Compliance is assessed to EN IEC 60745-1 for hand-held motor-operated electric tools and UL 746C for polymeric enclosures, with flammability classification at UL 94 HB for unmodified ABS 7000. The injection moulding process sets barrel at 240–255 °C, hot runner at 250 °C, mould at 70–80 °C, hold pressure at 60–80 MPa, and gate diameter at least 1.2× the nominal wall thickness of 2.0–2.5 mm. Terminal products include pistol-grip drill housings, angle grinder motor covers, and battery pack clamping frames.
Torsional stresses concentrated in the wheel boss, hinge, and telescopic handle gate regions of injection-moulded hard-shell luggage require ABS 7000 to be processed with a sufficiently high mould temperature to minimize internal stress and post-mould shrinkage. Formulation at 100 parts by weight ABS 7000, 3.0–5.0 wt% UV-stabilized colour masterbatch, and 0.1–0.3 wt% mould-release additive is typical for coloured shells exposed to intermittent sunlight and baggage-handling impact. Weathering is screened according to ISO 4892-2:2013 xenon-arc exposure, with colour change evaluated against ISO 105-A02 grey-scale limits set by individual brand specifications; no harmonized EU directive applies specifically to hard-shell luggage, so chemical compliance is managed through REACH 1907/2006 and the brand’s restricted substance list for articles. The injection moulding process uses melt at 240–250 °C, mould at 65–75 °C, central hot-runner with sequential valve gates, clamp force of at least 1,500 t, and cycle time 60–90 s. Weld lines at the wheel boss are relocated by gate sequencing; when weld lines remain within 8 mm of the boss root, notched impact retention drops by more than 10% relative to the unfused region in ISO 180/1A:2023 tests. Terminal parts include hard-shell side panels, wheel housings, telescopic handle gates, and hinge reinforcement plates.
Moulding of Wi-Fi router and set-top box enclosures from ABS 7000 requires filling walls of 1.8–2.2 mm through multiple edge gates while maintaining the fire-enclosure requirements of IEC 62368-1:2023. The formulation is composed of 96.0–99.0 wt% ABS 7000, 1.0–2.0 wt% custom colour concentrate, and 0.5–1.5 wt% antistatic masterbatch; FR-modified ABS is not used for standard CPE housings where the product safety design relies on external power source and low-voltage classification, and published data for V-0 modified ABS 7000 in thin-wall sections below 2.0 mm is limited. Compliance requires verification to IEC 62368-1:2023 fire enclosure provisions, RoHS 2011/65/EU substance restrictions, and IEC 62631-3-2:2023 for surface resistivity when antistatic performance is specified. The moulding process uses fill speed 120–180 mm/s, injection time 0.8–1.2 s, barrel set points 230/240/245/240 °C, mould 50–65 °C, and hold pressure 40–60 MPa. Ventilation hole ribs of 0.8–1.2 mm width require corner radii not smaller than 0.3 mm to avoid notch-sensitive cracking during drop tests at 23 °C after assembly. Terminal products include Wi-Fi router housings, set-top box front fascias, and optical network terminal covers.

Bhansali Engineering Polymers (BEPL) supplies ABS ABS 7000 as an unfilled acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene injection molding grade within the Absolac portfolio. The grade is positioned for applications requiring room-temperature and low-temperature notched impact retention, moderate stiffness, and predictable melt flow for thin-to-medium wall tooling. The polymer matrix consists of a grafted polybutadiene rubber phase dispersed in a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer continuous phase; the butadiene content is adjusted to shift the failure mode from brittle crack propagation to shear yielding under multiaxial stress. Incoming material identification typically uses density, ash content, and melt mass-flow rate. The nominal density is 1.04 g/cm³ per ISO 1183-1; ash content is generally below 0.05 %; melt mass-flow rate is measured at 220 °C under 10 kg load per ISO 1133-1:2022 and is typically reported in the 15–25 g/10 min range. These values are lot-dependent and should be verified against the certificate of analysis.
The specification boundary for ABS 7000 is defined by mechanical, thermal, and electrical performance. Tensile yield stress per ISO 527-2 is usually 40–48 MPa, tensile modulus 2100–2400 MPa, and nominal strain at break 15–30 %. Flexural strength per ISO 178 is typically 60–70 MPa, with flexural modulus 2000–2300 MPa. Charpy notched impact per ISO 179-1/1eA at 23 °C is typically above 30 kJ/m², while Izod notched impact per ISO 180/A is frequently reported in the 30–45 kJ/m² range. At -30 °C, notched impact values can fall below 10 kJ/m², which must be considered for unheated exterior components. Vicat softening temperature per ISO 306/B50 is typically 94–98 °C; heat deflection temperature under 1.82 MPa is approximately 88–92 °C per ISO 75-2. The grade is not a heat-resistant ABS and should not be used for continuous service above 80 °C under load.
Electrical property values are consistent with unfilled ABS: volume resistivity approximately 1015 Ω·cm, surface resistivity 1014 Ω, and dielectric strength 25–35 kV/mm per IEC 60243-1. Unless otherwise identified as specification limits, these values are representative lot values and are not guaranteed; the certificate of analysis for a specific production lot controls.
Compared with high-flow ABS grades whose melt mass-flow rates exceed 40 g/10 min, ABS 7000 trades spiral flow length for higher notched impact strength and improved resistance to weld-line cracking. High-flow ABS can fill wall sections down to 1.2 mm, but notched Izod values often fall below 15 kJ/m². ABS 7000 is better suited to nominal wall thicknesses of 2.0–3.5 mm where impact retention is more critical than maximum flow length. Compared with general-purpose ABS, ABS 7000 has a higher rubber phase content, a tensile modulus approximately 10–15 % lower, and significantly higher notched impact. Compared with heat-resistant ABS grades, ABS 7000 exhibits lower Vicat softening temperature by approximately 8–15 K and lower heat deflection temperature, but it processes at lower melt temperature with reduced thermal degradation risk.

Pre-drying is mandatory when ambient relative humidity exceeds 60 % or when silo storage time exceeds 48 h in uncontrolled conditions. Desiccant dryer setpoint is 80 °C for 3–4 h, with dew point below -40 °C and drying air flow not less than 0.15 m³/h per 1 kg/h throughput. Moisture content above 0.1 % leads to splay, silver streaks, and loss of notched impact due to hydrolysis at the butadiene graft interface. Processing on a reciprocating screw injection molding machine should use a general-purpose polyolefin or ABS screw with L/D of 20:1 to 25:1 and compression ratio of 2.0:1 to 2.5:1. Melt temperature measured at the nozzle is typically 220–250 °C; a barrel profile from feed to nozzle is commonly 180 °C, 210 °C, 230 °C, and 240 °C. Back pressure of 0.5–1.0 MPa and screw surface speed of 0.2–0.5 m/s are sufficient; higher shear rates increase melt temperature and yellowing. Mold temperature should be maintained at 40–70 °C. Below 40 °C, weld lines and molded-in stress increase; above 70 °C, cycle time lengthens and dimensional control becomes more difficult. Clamp force requirements are normally 4–6 kN/cm² of projected area. Residence time at 240 °C or above should not exceed 5 min; on hot-runner systems, externally heated manifolds should avoid dead spots because stagnation causes brown streaking and carbonized gels. Purging with HDPE or general-purpose polystyrene is recommended after processing thermally sensitive resins. Regrind addition up to 20 % by weight in virgin material is typically acceptable when regrind is re-dried and free of fines. At 30 % regrind, notched impact and melt flow drift should be monitored per lot; above 30 %, impact-critical parts may show unacceptable batch-to-batch variance.
For thin-wall electrical enclosures with nominal wall thickness between 2.0 and 3.5 mm, ABS 7000 is employed when the part must survive drop impact at -10 °C to -20 °C without brittle fracture. The higher butadiene content raises energy absorption during crack initiation, but flow length is lower than high-flow ABS. Gate sizing should be 0.6–0.8 times the nominal wall thickness, with fan or tab gates preferred over pinpoint gates to reduce shear-induced free rubber degradation. Weld line efficiency for the grade is typically 50–70 % of the unnotched base resin strength depending on mold temperature and melt temperature; for load-bearing bosses or snap fits located at weld lines, mechanical testing of molded plaques is required. UL 94 classification for the natural grade is typically HB at 1.5 mm; ABS 7000 is not a V-0 material. Automotive interior trim, appliance housings, vacuum cleaner bodies, and office equipment covers use ABS 7000 where high impact and matte-to-medium gloss surfaces are acceptable. It is not recommended for external unpainted parts because ABS undergoes UV-induced oxidation, chalking, and embrittlement; carbon black or UV stabilizer packages are needed for outdoor exposure. Published weathering data for this specific unfilled grade is limited.
Regulatory documentation accompanying commercial shipments normally includes RoHS compliance to Directive 2011/65/EU as amended, REACH SVHC screening under Regulation EC No 1907/2006, and absence of cadmium, lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDE at the homogeneous material level. The grade is not food-contact certified unless specifically declared for a given lot; no FDA 21 CFR 177.1020 designation should be assumed. The chemical resistance profile is typical of ABS. It withstands aqueous acids, dilute alkalis, and aliphatic hydrocarbons but is attacked by ketones, esters, aromatic hydrocarbons, and chlorinated solvents. Environmental stress cracking can occur in contact with certain plasticizers, cutting oils, and mold-release agents; compatibility testing per ISO 22088-3 is advisable for stressed parts.
