AUROran® ASA 9120 white is specified for unpainted exterior trim when the part must retain a low-gloss white surface without post-mould coating. On cowl vent grilles and exterior mirror housings, the specified drying condition is 80°C for 3–4 h in a desiccant dryer with a dew point of -30°C or lower. Residual granulate moisture must remain below 0.03 wt% as measured to ISO 15512. Barrel temperatures are profiled from 230°C at the feed throat to 250–260°C at the nozzle; mould temperature is held at 60–80°C. In production of a 2.5 mm cowl grille slat, the flow length/wall thickness ratio should not exceed 150:1 when injection speed is set above 100 mm/s. Mould shrinkage for tool design is taken between 0.4 % and 0.7 % with ISO 294-4. Anisotropic shrinkage at clip towers and doghouse features requires local steel adjustment. Accelerated weathering is conducted to SAE J2527 with xenon arc exposure of 2,500 kJ/m² at a black panel temperature of 65°C. The acceptance criterion commonly requires ΔE ≤ 3.0 and gloss retention ≥ 70 % after 2,000 kJ/m². White colour stability is maintained by a hindered amine light stabilizer package. The grade is run without external colour concentrate in bright trim tools. Direct gating into the backside of a mirror housing is preferred over edge gating to avoid visible splay at the part boundary. Injection pressure at the transfer point typically falls between 60 MPa and 100 MPa. Holding pressure is set at 60–80 % of peak injection pressure. End products include cowl vent grilles, exterior mirror housings, B-pillar appliqués, roof ditch mouldings, and tailgate trim panels.
Hot-runner tooling for white ASA requires stricter thermal control than dark-coloured ASA because titanium dioxide raises low-shear viscosity and accelerates gate freeze. Hot-tip temperatures are held at 250°C. Valve gate open time is set to avoid premature freeze in ribs below 1.2 mm. The maximum regrind level is 15 wt% for visible trim if granulate is dried and lot traceability is maintained. The grade-specific datasheet must be consulted for lot-specific melt volume-flow rate and tensile modulus.
Window lineal capstock is one of the most demanding processing routes for white ASA because the cap layer must simultaneously provide opacity, adhesion, and long-term gloss control over a rigid PVC substrate. A full-substrate ASA profile would be cost-prohibitive and would reduce the modulus delivered by the PVC core. Therefore the ASA layer is coextruded at 0.15–0.5 mm, with 0.20 mm as the practical minimum for white grades due to titanium dioxide hiding power. The ASA capstock is dried to 80°C for 3–4 h before processing. Residual moisture must not exceed 0.03 wt% under ISO 15512. Capstock melt temperature is controlled between 210°C and 230°C. Temperatures above 240°C increase gel formation and yellowing of the white edge at startup. The coextrusion feedblock is set at 210–220°C, while the PVC substrate melt is delivered from a conical twin-screw extruder at 185–195°C. Die land temperature is held at 200–210°C. The melt curtain must remain stable across a die gap of 2.0–3.0 mm. An unstable curtain produces transverse thickness variation and white streaking in the calibration zone. Vacuum calibration tank water is maintained at 15–25°C to lock surface gloss without stress whitening at corners.
Weathering compliance is tested to EN ISO 4892-2 with 8,000 h xenon arc exposure. Acceptance is typically ΔE ≤ 2.0 and Δb ≤ 1.5. Corner fusion welds are performed at heater plate temperatures of 230–240°C. White ASA capstock at the weld seam can show local discoloration if the plate temperature exceeds 245°C or if dwell time is longer than 30 s. Terminal products include white window profiles, glazing beads, fascia boards, shutter louvres, and soffit panels.

Outdoor telecommunication enclosures are specified in AUROran® ASA 9120 white when the location requires long-term colour retention under direct UV and a non-live electrical enclosure. Typical wall stock is 3.0–4.0 mm. Boss ribs are designed with a rib-to-wall thickness ratio of 0.6:1 maximum. Rib height should not exceed 2.5× wall thickness. This constraint avoids sink marks on Class A surfaces that are painted or textured. The material is tested to ISO 4892-2 for 5,000 h with minimum ΔE ≤ 3.0. Flame classification for unfilled ASA 9120 white is typically UL 94 HB at 3.0 mm. Enclosures with live parts requiring UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm must be switched to a flame-retardant ASA or ASA/PC grade. Impact resistance of the finished enclosure is a system requirement. Unfilled ASA housings with wall stock below 4.0 mm usually require internal ribbing or metal stiffeners to pass IEC 62262 IK08. Clamp force is calculated at 0.5–0.8 tonnes per cm² of projected area. Injection speed is set to fill the flow path in 1.5–2.5 s. Fast fill reduces visible flow hesitation on large flat surfaces. For warpage control on a 600 mm × 400 mm shroud, gas counterpressure or 0.3–0.8 wt% chemical blowing agent can be used. Gas counterpressure is preferred when the surface must remain free of silver streaks. Terminal products include base-station shrouds, antenna covers, utility meter box fascias, and outdoor camera housings.
Extruded sheet made from AUROran® ASA 9120 white is converted into thermoformed roof boxes, golf cart body panels, snowmobile side panels, and recreational vehicle exterior shroud components. Sheet extrusion uses a single-screw extruder with L/D ratio 30:1 and a barrier screw. Melt temperature at the die is held at 220–240°C. The polish roll stack is set to 80–100°C for gloss control. Thermoforming is performed at sheet surface temperatures of 140–180°C. Forming air pressure is 0.5–0.8 MPa for female tools. Plug-assisted forming is required when the draw ratio exceeds 1:1. Mould temperature in thermoforming is held at 50–60°C to avoid premature release. Low-temperature impact is evaluated to ISO 179-1/1eA. Design calculations should use published Charpy impact data for unfilled ASA at -30°C rather than room-temperature values. Load-bearing parts intended for service below -30°C are not recommended in unfilled ASA. Weathering of these parts is tested with ISO 4892-3 condensation and UV cycles for 2,000 h. Retention of white colour is evaluated by ΔE and visible cracking. End products are roof boxes, golf cart body panels, snowmobile side panels, and RV exterior trim panels.
During salt-fog exposure and intermittent chemical contact, ASA 9120 white is used for tractor fender extensions, ventilation cowls, marine instrument bezels, and RV exterior light housings. Chemical resistance is evaluated to ISO 175. The material tolerates dilute aqueous acids, alkaline cleaners, and sodium chloride solution, but aromatic hydrocarbons and ketones should not be present as continuous contact media. Salt-spray testing to ISO 9227 for 1,000 h is commonly specified. No blistering, cracking, or adhesion loss at the gate area is accepted. Injection moulding tools for these parts use draft angles of 2° or more on textured surfaces. Mould temperature is maintained at 60–80°C to reproduce grain depth of 25–40 µm. Because marine environments combine UV with salt deposits, the tool should place gates in non-visible areas to avoid salt accumulation at gate blush. Terminal products include tractor fender extensions, ventilation cowls, marine instrument bezels, and RV exterior light housings.
In air-source heat pump outdoor units, injection-moulded fan grilles and louvres are produced from ASA 9120 white because the white colour must remain stable after long exposure to sunlight, condensing water, and intermittent contact with cleaning agents. The fan grille is a thin-wall grid with multiple ribs. Wall thickness is 2.5–3.0 mm, rib spacing is kept above 1.0 mm, and gate location is selected to avoid weld lines at the hub ring. A sequential valve gate system is used when flow length exceeds 120 mm. Mould temperature is 70°C to reproduce a texture depth of 20–30 µm and to reduce visible flow lines. The material is classified UL 94 HB at 3.0 mm. For outdoor appliance enclosures, the plastic part must withstand IEC 60335-1 and related part 2 clauses for accessibility and weather resistance. The moulded louvres are assembled with a clearance of 2.0 mm between adjacent blades to allow thermal expansion at 60°C surface temperature. Terminal products are heat pump fan grilles, louvre kits, drain pan covers, and outdoor controller box front covers.
Sign cabinet shells and transit shelter panels require a sheet product that can be router-cut, bent, or vacuum-formed without loss of surface quality. ASA 9120 white sheet is extruded at 2–8 mm thickness. Thermoforming is carried out at a sheet surface temperature of 150–170°C. The clamp frame must be heated to 60–80°C to prevent early cooling and corner buckling. For a draw ratio above 1:1, plug assist is used. Plug material is syntactic foam or PTFE-coated aluminium. Forming pressure is 0.5–0.8 MPa. Mould release is possible at 50–60°C. Separation below that temperature may introduce static charge. Weathering is tested to ISO 4892-2 for 5,000 h. Colour shift ΔE ≤ 3.0 is used for sign cabinet acceptance. Published tensile modulus for unfilled ASA typically falls between 2,100 MPa and 2,600 MPa as measured to ISO 527-2. Terminal products are backlit sign trays, bollard body panels, kiosk fascias, and transit shelter panels.

When the enclosure contains uninsulated live parts, unfilled ASA 9120 white is not the first material choice. Published data for this specific configuration is limited. The grade is typically classified UL 94 HB at 3.0 mm. It does not satisfy UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm without flame-retardant modification. Therefore a charge port housing with a conductive charging inlet must use a flame-retardant ASA, ASA/PC, or PC/ABS grade unless the electrical enclosure is metallic and the ASA component is a decorative front fascia. In the decorative fascia configuration, wall thickness is 1.8–2.5 mm. Flow length is kept below 120 mm. A fan gate or tab gate is placed at the top edge to avoid visible flow lines. Drying remains 80°C for 3–4 h before moulding. Outdoor service requires UL 746C f1 UV resistance. Long-term colour shift is assessed by ISO 4892-2. The part is designed as a non-load-bearing cover with snap features. The snap beam thickness at the root must not exceed 0.8× the nominal wall to prevent stress cracking at the gate. Terminal parts are non-live front fascias, external bezels, and cable management covers for wallbox enclosures.
