    Packing & Storage
Packing Asahi Kasei SUNFINE UHMWPE S360P is supplied in 20 kg moisture-resistant paper bags, typically palletized for industrial handling.
Container Loading (20′ FCL) Asahi Kasei SUNFINE UHMWPE S360P is loaded in a clean, dry 20-foot FCL container, securely packed and stowed for export.
Shipping Asahi Kasei SUNFINE UHMWPE S360P is a non-hazardous ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene powder and is not regulated as dangerous goods for transport. Ship in sealed, moisture-resistant bags or drums under ambient conditions, protected from moisture, contamination, and direct sunlight; follow the SDS and local regulations.
Storage Store Asahi Kasei SUNFINE UHMWPE S360P in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight, heat, sparks, flames, and strong oxidizers. Keep containers tightly closed, labeled, and protected from physical damage. Avoid moisture and dust generation; use grounding/bonding to prevent static discharge. Do not store near food, drink, or animal feed. Follow local regulations and the SDS.
Shelf Life Under cool, dry, stable storage, SUNFINE UHMWPE S360P typically has a shelf life of about two years.

What Limits the Melt-Gel Transition Window in Wet-Process Separator Production?

Wet-process lithium-ion separator lines using Asahi Kasei SUNFINE UHMWPE S360P as the polyolefin component require a gel precursor in which the powder is dispersed into high-boiling paraffin oil before film casting. The resin is metered at 20–40 wt% of the total polymer-oil mixture and compounded in a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with L/D 52 segmented screws; melt-gel temperatures are held between 160°C and 220°C, with die-lip temperature uniformity maintained within ±3°C to prevent localized gel fracture. The extruded gel sheet, typically 0.8–2.5 mm thick before extraction, is cast through a T-die and simultaneously biaxially stretched at draw ratios of 5× to 9× in machine direction and 5× to 8× in transverse direction. Solvent extraction with n-hexane or dichloromethane then removes the paraffin oil to a residual level of ≤0.3 wt%; this is measured by gravimetric extraction rather than ash content because paraffin oil leaves no inorganic residue. The resulting microporous membrane has a thickness of 5–25 μm, porosity of 35–50%, and a thermal shutdown temperature near 135–140°C. Process failure modes observed on production-scale lines include die-lip build-up from low-molecular-weight fractions, non-uniform gelation when barrel temperature dips below 160°C, and excessive extraction load when the cast sheet exceeds 2.5 mm. Because zero-shear viscosity exceeds 10⁸ Pa·s at 210°C, conventional screw injection molding is excluded from this application. Compliance for the separator film is audited under ASTM D882-18 for tensile properties, ASTM D5748-95(2012) for puncture resistance, IEC 62660-3:2016 for cell safety requirements, and the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, subsection 38.3 for transport. Resin-level declarations are issued under REACH (EC) No 1907/2006 and EU 2023/1542 for battery supply-chain due diligence. Terminal products include separators for electric vehicle lithium-ion cells, energy storage system pouch and prismatic cells, and high-rate consumer cylindrical cells in 18650 and 21700 formats.

In continuous gel-spinning lines producing ultra-high-modulus polyolefin yarn, SUNFINE S360P is first dispersed in decalin or white mineral oil at a solution concentration of 5–12 wt%; a hindered phenolic antioxidant is incorporated at 0.1–0.5 wt% of resin to suppress thermo-oxidative chain scission during prolonged dissolution. The dissolution step uses a jacketed high-shear mixer held at 150–170°C under nitrogen, because residual moisture above 0.03 wt% creates steam-induced filament gas porosity and oxidative degradation accelerates above 180°C. The homogenised solution is metered by a gear pump through a spinneret with hole diameter 0.5–1.5 mm, quenched in a water bath to form a gel filament, extracted with n-hexane or acetone, and hot-drawn at 120–150°C to total draw ratios between 30:1 and 80:1. On twin-screw extruders with L/D 52, batch-to-batch variance in S360P gel uniformity appears as spinneret pressure fluctuations exceeding ±5%; this is reduced by controlled pre-drying at 70–90°C for 4–6 h and by specifying particle-size distribution consistency. The drawn yarn is tested per ASTM D7269-17; commercially reported gel-spun UHMWPE yarn tenacity ranges from 2.5 N/tex to 4.0 N/tex, and modulus ranges from 90 N/tex to 140 N/tex. Grade-specific published data for SUNFINE S360P in gel spinning is limited; the following table reflects commercial UHMWPE gel-spinning benchmarks rather than a single S360P production trial. End-use conformity is established under EN 388:2016 + A1:2018 for cut-resistant gloves, NIJ 0101.06 or NIJ 0101.07 for ballistic armour, and ISO 2307:2019 for fibre ropes. Terminal products include cut-resistant industrial gloves, ballistic inserts and helmets, offshore mooring ropes, and lightweight lifting slings.

Sintered Porous Media from S360P without Added Porogen

Sintering SUNFINE S360P powder in precision-machined moulds at 180–200°C produces porous monoliths without the use of sacrificial porogen particles because the void network derives from the inter-particle spaces retained during partial fusion. The powder charge is filled at 100 wt%, compacted uniformly at 5–10 MPa, and then heated in a forced-air oven with temperature uniformity of ±2°C for 20–40 min; pore size distribution is governed by the powder particle-size distribution rather than by chemical blowing or leaching. In powder-handling lines, hopper bridging is observed when the powder is not pre-conditioned; hopper vibration and drying at 70°C for 2–4 h reduce feed inconsistency. Final porosity of 30–45% and pore throat diameters in the 10–80 μm range are typical for industrial filter grades, with pore size characterised by capillary flow porometry according to ASTM F316-03(2019). The material is evaluated for food-contact suitability against FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 and EU Regulation (EU) No 10/2011; porous components intended for pharmaceutical or bioprocessing utility lines are supplied with USP <88> Class VI statements where applicable. Because oxidative chain scission accelerates above 200°C, sintering cycles require tight ceiling control and forced cooling below 80°C before removal from the mould. Terminal products include pneumatic mufflers, porous vent elements for battery packs, aeration diffusers for water treatment, and support plates for membrane filtration skids.

Where virgin UHMWPE wear components are machined from compression-moulded stock shapes, SUNFINE S360P is cold-compacted under 10–20 MPa and sintered at 200–215°C for 30–60 min with a 100 wt% powder charge or with 2–3 wt% conductive carbon black for antistatic liners, yielding sheets, rods, and tubes that comply with FDA 21 CFR 177.1520, EU Regulation (EU) No 10/2011, and ISO 11542-1:2001, and that are machined into chain guides, star wheels, hopper liners, wear strips, and conveyor side rails.
