In agricultural water storage and fertigation tank production, Arya Sasol MDPE 3713 is processed as a 35-mesh rotomoulding powder on carousel and shuttle machines. The governing product standard for vertical cylindrical polyethylene tanks is ASTM D1998-21; parts are marked in accordance with ISO 11469:2016, and final-article potable-water listing under NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 must be verified by the moulder rather than assumed from raw resin certification. The dry blend consists of 100 wt% MDPE 3713, 2.0–3.0 wt% carbon black masterbatch for UV stabilisation, and 0.2–0.5 wt% HALS masterbatch; calcium carbonate is restricted to ≤1.0 wt% where environmental stress-crack resistance under ASTM D1693-21 Condition B must remain above 500 h. Powder dry-flow is controlled between 28 s and 40 s per 100 g; oven temperature is set at 270–290 °C, and peak internal air temperature is held at 190–210 °C. A PIAT excursion above 210 °C produces surface oxidation and imparts taste-and-odour species to stored irrigation water; a PIAT below 190 °C leaves unmelted powder at rib roots. Mould rotation ratio is 4:1 on the primary-to-secondary axes, and forced-air cooling is staged to 90 °C before mist cooling and demoulding at 60–70 °C. The antioxidant system is checked by oxidative induction time under ISO 11357-6:2018; values below 20 min at 200 °C are rejected for outdoor tanks intended for more than 10 years service. Terminal products include 500–30,000 L vertical storage tanks, cone-bottom irrigation reservoirs, and fertigation dosing tanks.
Chemical dosing cabinets and secondary containment pallets are rotomoulded from MDPE 3713 when the final article must combine high environmental stress-crack resistance with the capacity to be hot-plate welded or spin-welded after demoulding. The governing European product standard is EN 13575:2012 for thermoplastic tanks used for above-ground storage of chemicals; final-article chemical resistance is determined by immersion testing under ISO 175:2010, and density according to ISO 1183-1:2019 is used to calculate hoop stress in the wall. The dry blend is 100 wt% MDPE 3713, 0.5–1.0 wt% colour masterbatch, 0.15–0.40 wt% antioxidant masterbatch, and clean in-house regrind limited to 20 wt% because higher regrind fractions reduce ASTM D1693-21 Condition B ESCR below the 500 h threshold. In production, wall thickness is maintained between 8 mm and 20 mm, the PIAT is held at 200–210 °C, and the cooling rate is limited to ≤4 °C/min to prevent internal voiding at thick-section corners. Field monitoring on four-station independent-arm carousel machines has shown that pinholes form preferentially at internal radii below 3 mm when dry-flow exceeds 40 s/100 g; tooling corner radii are therefore specified at ≥5 mm for aggressive sodium hypochlorite service. For oxidising acids and hydrogen peroxide above 5%, published data specific to this resin grade is limited, so immersion testing at the actual service temperature is mandatory before production. Terminal products include 100–1,000 L dosing tanks, double-wall acid bunds, and chemical transfer stations.

For double-wall insulated fish tubs and cold-chain bins, MDPE 3713 is rotomoulded as the inner and outer shells, after which a closed-cell rigid polyurethane foam core of 35–45 kg/m³ is injected into the cavity. Food-contact compliance is evaluated under FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 for olefin polymers and EU Regulation (EU) No 10/2011; overall migration must not exceed 10 mg/dm², and final-article compliance depends on the selected masterbatch and processing aid chemistry. The dry blend is 100 wt% MDPE 3713, 1.0–2.0 wt% white masterbatch, and a nucleating agent masterbatch at 0.05–0.2 wt% to reduce post-mould shrinkage variation. Shell wall thickness is 3–5 mm inner and 4–6 mm outer; the PIAT is held at 190–205 °C, and cooling is slowed to maintain low-temperature impact strength measured as Charpy notched impact under ISO 179-1:2023 at -20 °C. Terminal products include 20–1,000 L fish tubs, meat lugs, and insulated distribution boxes used in cold-chain handling.
Wastewater pump chambers, septic tank risers, and valve pits fabricated from MDPE 3713 are specified when the final structure must be assembled by butt-fusion welding from rotomoulded shells; crosslinked polyethylene grades cannot be butt-fused because the crosslink network prevents molecular interdiffusion at the weld interface. Assembly follows DVS 2207-1 for heated-tool butt welding of polyethylene, with a heater plate surface temperature of 200–215 °C, heating time of 40–60 s/mm of wall thickness, and joining pressure of 0.10–0.15 N/mm². Product performance is assessed under EN 12566-1 for small wastewater treatment systems and process control under ISO 9001:2015. The rotomoulding blend is 100 wt% MDPE 3713 with 2.0–2.5 wt% carbon black masterbatch; weld rods are produced from the same resin batch and are not sourced from reprocessed material, because low-molecular-weight tails in regrind widen the molecular weight distribution and reduce weld ductility. On thick-section pump chambers with wall thickness 12–25 mm, the PIAT is kept at 195–205 °C and cooling is controlled by intermittent air mist to prevent frozen stress at the future weld plane. Terminal products include 1,000–50,000 L pump chambers, manhole risers, valve boxes, and oil/grease separators.
For rotomoulded fender floats and floating dock pontoons, MDPE 3713 is selected for low-temperature impact strength and UV resistance when a black HALS-stabilised masterbatch is present. The dry blend comprises 100 wt% MDPE 3713, 2.0–3.0 wt% carbon black masterbatch, 0.5–1.0 wt% HALS masterbatch, and 0.05–0.10 wt% processing aid to reduce melt sticking on complex tooling. Compliance for hazardous substances is verified under RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006; no marine-specific product standard applies to the bulk resin, so mechanical acceptance is based on ISO 179-1:2023 Charpy notched impact and ISO 1183-1:2019 density. The moulding process uses a PIAT of 190–205 °C and wall thickness of 6–10 mm; demoulding is delayed until part surface temperature is below 60 °C to prevent warpage in cylindrical floats. On open-mould shuttle lines, water spray cooling is limited to the exterior surface after the part reaches 90 °C, because rapid water quench increases surface haze and reduces Charpy impact by up to 15%; this is a critical threshold for arctic service floats. Terminal products include dock pontoons, navigation buoy cores, and fender fill shells.
Bulk material handling bins and hopper bodies rotomoulded from MDPE 3713 are often blended with up to 15 wt% linear low-density polyethylene or metallocene-catalysed PE to raise dart impact strength for forklift service; the blend must be verified for ESCR loss because the higher branch content reduces crystallinity and can lower ASTM D1693-21 Condition B performance below 200 h. The product standard for plastic pallets and bins is ISO 8611-1:2021; dimensional acceptance is evaluated after 48 h conditioning at 23 °C and 50% relative humidity. A typical shuttle rotomoulder setup uses a 5:1 secondary-axis speed ratio, oven temperature 280–300 °C, and PIAT 190–210 °C; wall thickness is 5–12 mm depending on load class. For load class 750 kg and above, post-mould annealing at 80 °C for 30 min is applied to remove residual stress at forklift fork pockets; omission of this step has been associated with corner cracking after outdoor storage. Terminal products include 500–3,000 L pallet boxes, granular material hoppers, and feed bins.
